เวที Film Independent Spirit Awards ประกาศรายชื่อผู้เข้าชิงรางวัลครั้งที่ 36 ออกมาให้ทราบกันแล้ว โดยปีนี้ภาพยนตร์ดราม่า Never Rarely Sometimes Always ของผู้กำกับ Eliza Hittman ได้เข้าชิงสูงสุดถึง 7 รางวัล ตามมาติด ๆ ด้วยภาพยนตร์ดราม่า Minari ของผู้กำกับ Lee Isaac Chung ที่ได้เข้าชิง 6 รางวัล ส่วน Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom และ Nomadland นั้นร่วมลุ้นกันไปคนละ 5 รางวัล ซึ่งในบรรดาผลงานที่ได้เข้าชิงทั้งหมด มีผลงานของ Netflix เข้าชิงถึง 16 รางวัล ตามมาด้วยผลงานของ Focus Features 10 รางวัล และผลงานของ A24 9 รางวัล โดยงานประกาศผลรางวัลจะมีขึ้นในวันที่ 22 เมษายนนี้
